How do I take a screenshot on my iPhone or iPad?

Capturing your screen on an Apple device is simple, but the method depends on the model you have. Follow these step-by-step instructions to take a screenshot on any iPhone or iPad.

Method 1: Devices with Face ID (No Home Button)

If you have a modern iPhone (like the iPhone 13, 14, or 15 series) or an iPad Pro without a Home button, use this method:

  1. Open the app, document, or image you want to capture.
  2. Press the Side Button (or Top Button on iPad) and the Volume Up button at the exact same time.
  3. Quickly release both buttons.
  4. A thumbnail of your screenshot will temporarily appear in the lower-left corner of your screen. Tap it to edit or swipe left to dismiss it.

Method 2: Devices with a Home Button (Touch ID)

For older iPhones (like the iPhone SE or iPhone 8) and iPads that still feature the physical Home button at the bottom:

  1. Press the Side Button (or Top Button) and the Home button at the same time.
  2. Quickly release both buttons.
  3. The screen will flash briefly, and a thumbnail will appear in the lower-left corner.

How to Take a Full-Page (Scrolling) Screenshot

If you are viewing a long webpage in Safari, a PDF, or an email, you can capture the entire document in one go—saving it as a single PDF file.

  1. Take a standard screenshot using one of the methods above.
  2. Quickly tap the thumbnail that appears in the lower-left corner.
  3. At the top of the editing screen, tap the Full Page tab (if available).
  4. Tap Done, then select Save PDF to Files.

Method 3: Taking a Screenshot without Buttons (AssistiveTouch)

If your physical buttons are broken or hard to press, you can use Apple's software accessibility feature.

  1. Go to Settings > Accessibility > Touch > AssistiveTouch and turn it on.
  2. A floating virtual button will appear on your screen.
  3. Tap the virtual button, then go to Device > More > Screenshot to capture your screen.

Where to Find Your Saved Screenshots

Standard image screenshots are automatically saved to your camera roll.

  • Open the Photos app iconPhotos app.
  • Go to the Albums tab.
  • Scroll down to Media Types and tap on Screenshots.
