How to Take a Screenshot on iPhone

Learn the easiest way to capture your iPhone screen, save screenshots, edit them, and find them in Photos.

Press Side Button + Volume Up

SECTION 1 — iPhones with Face ID (iPhone X, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18 Series)

This method works for all standard Face ID models, including the latest iPhone 18, iPhone 18 Pro, and iPhone 18 Pro Max:

  1. Step 1: Press and hold the Side button on the right side of your iPhone.
  2. Step 2: Immediately press and release the Volume Up button on the left side.
  3. Step 3: A screenshot thumbnail appears in the lower-left corner of your screen.
  4. Step 4: Tap the thumbnail to edit/share, or swipe it away to the left to quickly save it.

SECTION 2 — iPhone Duo & Foldable Models

Taking a screenshot on the innovative dual-screen iPhone Duo offers unique options to capture one or both screens simultaneously:

  • Capture Both Screens: Press the Side button and Volume Up at the same time while the device is unfolded. This takes an ultra-wide screenshot of both active displays side-by-side.
  • Capture a Single Screen: If the device is folded or you only want to capture the active app in Focus Mode, you can use the customizable Action Button (if configured for screenshots) or tap the screen preview to easily crop out the secondary display.

SECTION 3 — iPhones with a Home button (iPhone SE, 8, 7, 6)

For models like the iPhone SE or older iPhones that still have a physical Home button at the bottom:

Press and hold the Side/Top button and Home button together, then release. The screen will flash white, and the iPhone screenshot shortcut will save the image to your device.

SECTION 4 — Where is my screenshot?

After you take an iPhone screenshot, it is automatically saved to your camera roll. To find it, open the Photos app, go to the Albums tab, scroll down to Media Types, and tap Screenshots.

SECTION 5 — Edit & Share

When you take a screenshot, you can quickly interact with it:

  • Tap the preview: Tap the thumbnail in the bottom left corner to open the markup editor.
  • Crop & Annotate: Drag the edges to crop, or use the pen, highlighter, and pencil tools to draw and annotate.
  • Share: Tap the Share icon (square with an upward arrow) to send it via Messages, Mail, AirDrop, or other apps.
  • Save/Delete: Tap "Done" to save to Photos/Files, or delete it if you don't need it.
